About the Role
We are seeking a friendly, organized, and dependable Veterinary Receptionist to be the first point of contact for our clients and their pets. In this role, you will help keep the front desk running smoothly by greeting clients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, updating records, processing payments, and communicating clearly with our veterinary care team. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, compassionate with clients, comfortable multitasking, and passionate about supporting high-quality animal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet clients and patients warmly and professionally upon arrival.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to client questions, and route calls appropriately.
- Schedule, confirm, and manage appointments using the clinic’s scheduling system.
- Maintain accurate client and patient records, including contact information, visit notes, and vaccination history.
- Process invoices, payments, receipts, and basic account questions with accuracy and discretion.
- Communicate clearly between clients, veterinarians, technicians, and support staff.
- Assist with prescription refill requests, follow-up communications, and client reminders.
- Help keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming.
- Handle sensitive or urgent situations with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a veterinary receptionist or client service representative in a veterinary, medical, or similarly fast-paced clinical environment
- Experience with veterinary practice management software; EZYVET preferred
- Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, vaccination protocols and basic diagnostic procedures
- Proficiency in appointment scheduling, multi-line phone management, medical records management and payment processing
- Proven customer service skills; ability to manage high-volume client relations with composure and accuracy
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening and conflict resolution
- Comfortable handling animals of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments, including fearful or reactive patients
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in veterinary assisting, medical administration or customer service is a plus
- Ability to recognize urgent or emergency situations, gather accurate information, and promptly alert the veterinary team according to hospital protocols
- Working knowledge of client confidentiality, medical record accuracy, payment policies and professional boundaries in a healthcare setting
- Proficiency with computers, email, office equipment, and accurate data entry; experience with Microsoft Office or similar tools preferred
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift or assist with patients and supplies as needed; must be comfortable working around animal hair, odors, noise, cleaning products and the potential for bites or scratches
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, professional appearance, and the ability to work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and fellow client service team members
Schedule: Full-time (part-time availability may be considered)
Schedule: This is a full-time position with a consistent weekly schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM. Occasional flexibility may be required to support hospital needs, staff coverage, or client care demands.
Salary: $18.00-$23.00 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience and qualifications.

Veterinary Assistant, River Rapids Pet Hospital and Clinic
We are seeking a dependable, compassionate Veterinary Assistant to support our veterinary medical team in delivering excellent patient care and client service. This role assists veterinarians and technicians with examinations, treatments, patient handling, hospital cleanliness, and daily clinic operations in a professional, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures.
- Safely handle, restrain, walk, feed, and monitor dogs, cats, and other patients as directed.
- Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical areas, instruments, and supplies for appointments or procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the hospital, including kennels, cages, laundry, dishes, floors, trash removal, and equipment cleaning.
- Support basic laboratory sample preparation and in-house testing as permitted by state regulations and hospital protocols.
- Monitor hospitalized or boarding patients for comfort, cleanliness, appetite, and general condition, reporting concerns promptly.
- Provide friendly, professional service to clients and communicate basic patient updates as directed by medical staff.
- Follow all hospital safety, sanitation, medical waste, and animal-handling procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous animal care, veterinary clinic, kennel, shelter, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
- Comfortable working with dogs, cats, and other animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and work well as part of a team.
- Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, clean, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Positive attitude, reliability, willingness to learn, and commitment to compassionate patient care.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, professional appearance, and the ability to work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, assistants, and fellow client service team members
Schedule: Full-time (part-time availability may be considered)
